Police have formed an inquiry committee following the circulation of an audio clip featuring Rakibul Hasan, the recently former Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the Cantonment Police Station under the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP). This three-member committee is currently interrogating Rakibul Hasan.

A senior DMP official disclosed this information to the media on Thursday night. He stated that a three-member inquiry committee, headed by a Joint Police Commissioner of the DMP, has been formed. The committee also includes an officer from the police’s cyber division. They are questioning Rakibul Hasan.

Earlier on Thursday, Rakibul Hasan was made OSD (Officer on Special Duty) for administrative reasons. An order from the DMP Commissioner’s office attached him to the Central Reserve Office of the DMP Headquarters and Administration Division. The order, signed by DMP Commissioner Md. Mosleh Uddin Ahmed, stipulated immediate implementation.

The order stated that Md. Rakibul Hasan, an unarmed police inspector serving in the DMP, was attached to the Central Reserve Office of the DMP Headquarters and Administration Division, effective September 17, for administrative reasons.

Rakibul Hasan had been serving as the OC of the Cantonment Police Station under the DMP’s Gulshan Division. An audio clip circulated on social media last Wednesday night, in which Rakibul Hasan was heard making various remarks regarding the government, the administration, the army, and the police force. Multiple police sources indicated that they have preliminarily confirmed the voice in the audio belongs to Rakibul Hasan.

In the audio, Rakibul Hasan is heard saying, “Sheikh Hasina is coming in December; nothing will happen. You cannot even imagine how weak the street-level police are. Terribly weak.”

He is further heard saying, “She should come. December is too late; she should have come this month. If she arrives, the police won’t be able to do a thing.”

Additionally, the police officer is heard commenting on senior police officials’ involvement in political activities. He says, “Senior officers are all supporting the BNP. We, on the other hand, aren’t supporting the BNP.” “All the seniors are involved with the BNP, but we are not.”

The audio further states, “We didn’t come to the department for this sort of thing. You lot will eat, drink, and keep the spoils for yourselves while we sit here and do the actual work—that simply won’t do.”

The authenticity of the audio could not be independently verified immediately. The aforementioned DMP official stated that the police have formed an investigation committee regarding this incident.
