It is worth noting that the Prime Minister traveled to New York on September 21 to attend the UN General Assembly session. He delivered a speech in Bangla at the General Assembly on September 24 (local time) and returned home on September 27 following the visit.
In his address at the UN, the Prime Minister emphasized the development roadmap for a new democratic Bangladesh, global peace, the Rohingya crisis, climate change, and the equitable use of artificial intelligence (AI). Outlining the government’s roadmap for national reconstruction, the Prime Minister stated, “To repair a Bangladesh scarred by fascist rule and exploitation, the government is pursuing a ‘3-R’ strategy: Recovery, Restoration, and Reconstruction.”
At the outset of her speech, the Prime Minister paid deep tribute to the martyrs of the July-August 2024 student-led mass uprising and those who sacrificed their lives in the democratic struggles following independence. Noting the democratic transition that followed the end of one and a half decades of fascism, she said, “In this Bangladesh, the people entrusted the responsibility of governing the state to the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) through the fair, free, and impartial national election held on February 12 of this year.”
In her address, the Prime Minister reaffirmed Bangladesh’s unwavering support for the demand to establish an independent Palestinian state. She stated, “The pro-democracy people of Bangladesh are deeply concerned about the plight of the freedom-seeking Palestinian people. Bangladesh reiterates its steadfast support for their legitimate demands, including the right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.”
