Miscreants have shot and killed Akhtar Dhali, just fifty days after his son, Joy Dhali (27), was shot and hacked to death in Rupsha Upazila, Khulna.
The incident occurred yesterday, Monday, around 6:45 PM in Durjanimahal village under Aichgati Union of Rupsha Upazila.
Police and locals reported that Akhtar Dhali was chatting with locals on a bench at a tea stall near the mosque after performing the Maghrib prayers. Suddenly, the sound of gunfire was heard. Family members and locals rushed to the scene and found him lying beside the bench. Locals quickly took him to Khulna Medical College Hospital, where the attending physician declared him dead. Police arrived at the scene upon receiving the news.
Anwar Zahid, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Rupsha Police Station, stated that Akhtar Dhali was shot by miscreants. The police are investigating the motive behind the killing and the identities of the perpetrators.
Earlier, on the evening of August 15, miscreants had shot and hacked to death Akhtar Dhali’s son, Joy Dhali, at Shahid-er Mor in Durjanimahal. Following that incident, the victim’s mother, Nasima Begum, filed a murder case against 13 individuals.
Notably, 35 murders have taken place across nine police stations in Khulna district this year; of these, 12 occurred in Rupsha Upazila alone.
