Md. Abdur Rahim, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Khulshi Police Station—who had gone to arrest Wakil Hossain (alias ‘Bihari Boga’), a teenage gang leader facing 18 cases in Chattogram city—has been transferred. He has been posted to the City Special Branch (City SB) of the Chattogram Metropolitan Police. This transfer comes just one month and ten days after he assumed charge at Khulshi Police Station.
Simultaneously, a reshuffle of Officers-in-Charge (OCs) has taken place across two stations of the Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP). This was announced yesterday, Wednesday evening, in an order signed by CMP Commissioner Hasan Md. Shawkat Ali.
Meanwhile, Bihari Boga phoned Kamal Parvez, the Chattogram Resident Editor of Channel 24, and threatened him. Senior journalist Kamal Parvez wrote in a Facebook post, “I do not understand why a humble media worker like me caught your eye. Still, thank you, ‘Mr.’ Wakil Hossain Boga. I would be pleased if you could let me know the date of your trial.” Journalists across the board, including the Chattogram Television Network, have protested and condemned this incident. They have demanded that the terrorist Boga be brought to justice immediately.
According to the CMP order, Md. Nazer Hossain, the Inspector (Investigation) of Chawkbazar Police Station, has been posted as the OC of Akbarshah Police Station. Md. Kamruzzaman, the current OC of Akbarshah Police Station, has been appointed as the OC of Khulshi Police Station. Khulshi Police Station OC Md. Abdur Rahim has been transferred to the City SB. This order, issued in the public interest, takes effect immediately.
Sources indicated that OC Abdur Rahim was transferred following a controversy surrounding the operation to arrest Bihari Boga last Tuesday night. Boga is an expelled Joint Convener of the Chattogram Metropolitan Swechchhasebak Dal.
