He made these remarks yesterday when a delegation from Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University (HSTU), led by Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. M Enamullah, paid a courtesy call on him at Bangabhaban. The President’s Press Secretary, Md. Sarwar Alam, provided this information.

President calls for a youth-led social movement against drugs: President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called upon the country’s young generation as well as social and voluntary organizations to raise awareness and build a strong social movement against drug abuse. He made this call yesterday at Bangabhaban when a 38-member delegation from ‘Ahban’—a social and cultural organization comprising talented young students and professionals from Thakurgaon district—paid a courtesy call on him. The organization’s Convener, Lukman Sharif, and Member Secretary, Dr. … Tahmid Ahmed led the delegation. A press release from the President’s Press Wing conveyed this information.

During the meeting, the President remarked, “If the young generation is not protected from the devastating impact of drugs, the nation’s desired progress will be hindered. Drug abuse not only destroys the promising lives of many young people but also harms families and society. It is crucial to build an effective social movement involving people from all walks of life to eradicate the drug menace.”

He further added, “To bring prosperity to a region, its people must be awakened, and education, culture, knowledge, science, and human values must be fostered. Social and voluntary organizations in the country play a vital role in driving positive societal change and ensuring public welfare.”
The President commended various social, cultural, and voluntary activities organized by ‘Ahban,’ such as the school-based science fair in Thakurgaon, a football tournament featuring persons with disabilities, medical camps, the distribution of winter clothing, and the ‘Gen-Z Carnival.’

Urging the youth to play a more active role in the overall development of Thakurgaon district, the President said, “Young people and professionals can make significant contributions to the district’s economic and agricultural development, the welfare of the poor and marginalized, support for meritorious yet financially disadvantaged students, the resolution of social issues like drug abuse, and the facilitation of public access to government services.” He called upon the younger generation to uphold democratic values and healthy cultural practices in their personal, social, and organizational lives.

During the meeting, members of ‘Ahban’ described the President as a source of inspiration for the younger generation. They also expressed their gratitude and thanks for his role in the development and public welfare of Thakurgaon district. They pledged to work from their respective positions to build a beautiful, humane, enlightened, and prosperous Bangladesh. The delegation members sought the President’s guidance and cooperation for the organization’s activities. The President assured them of his full support and wished them all well.
