A major change has come to the e-passport process in Bangladesh. On February 18, 2024, the Security Services Department of the Ministry of Home Affairs issued a circular stating that from now on, police verification will no longer be required to get an e-passport. Passports will be issued on the basis of National Identity Card (NID) or Birth Registration Certificate.<\/p>\n
Which documents are required for whom?<\/p>\n
To get an e-passport, applicants will have to provide the necessary documents according to their age:<\/p>\n
Below 18 years: Online Registered Birth Registration Certificate (BRC, English version).<\/p>\n
18-20 years: NID card or Online Registered Birth Registration Certificate (BRC, English version).<\/p>\n
Above 20 years: Only NID card. However, applicants can submit online birth registration certificates through foreign missions.<\/p>\n
In case of children: NID card of parents.<\/p>\n
Proof of address: Recent utility bill (gas, electricity or water).<\/p>\n
Special circumstances: Approval of the Department of Protective Services of the Ministry of Home Affairs in case of adoption or guardianship.<\/p>\n
Required documents by profession<\/p>\n
Doctor, Engineer, Driver: Relevant technical certificate.<\/p>\n
Student: Latest educational qualification certificate or certificate of educational institution\/student ID.<\/p>\n
Private employee: Official certificate of the institution.<\/p>\n
Government employee: Government Order (GO), No Objection Letter (NOC), certificate, PRL order or pension book.<\/p>\n
Farmer: Land title.<\/p>\n
Businessman: Trade license.<\/p>\n
To be submitted at the time of application<\/p>\n
Summary of the application form (print copy) with the scheduled time for biometrics.<\/p>\n
Completed application form registered online (print copy).<\/p>\n
Passport fee deposit receipt.<\/p>\n
Lab-printed recent photograph (on gray background) for those below 6 years of age.<\/p>\n
E-Passport application process<\/p>\n
1. Online application form filling:<\/p>\n
Go to the website www.epassport.gov.bd and click on the “Apply Online” tab.<\/p>\n
The candidate should specify the relevant passport office with the name of the district and police station.<\/p>\n
An account should be opened with e-mail, NID\/birth registration and mobile number.<\/p>\n
2. Providing information and paying fees:<\/p>\n
All information should be filled in according to the NID.<\/p>\n
The fee can be paid online through Visa, MasterCard, bKash, Nagad, Rocket, UPay, bank transfer.<\/p>\n
3. Appointment for biometrics:<\/p>\n
A convenient date should be selected from the online calendar.<\/p>\n
On the appointed day, a photograph should be taken and fingerprints should be given at the passport office.<\/p>\n
4. Passport distribution:<\/p>\n
After submitting the application, a notification of readiness will be sent to the mobile via SMS\/e-mail.<\/p>\n
The passport should be collected from the relevant office with the distribution slip and NID.<\/p>\n
E-Passport Fee and Timeframe<\/p>\n
The fee has been fixed in three categories based on the validity and delivery of e-passport:<\/p>\n
Super Express: 2 working days.<\/p>\n
Express: 7-10 working days.<\/p>\n
Regular: 15-21 working days.<\/p>\n
Online Passport Status Check<\/p>\n
To know the current status of the applied passport, you can check it by visiting the link https:\/\/www.epassport.gov.bd\/authorization\/application-status and using the 13-digit Application ID or Online Registration ID (OID).<\/p>\n
Collection of e-passport without police verification<\/p>\n
Earlier, after biometrics, a call was made for police verification, which has now been abolished. Applicants can collect their passports directly from the office on the scheduled day.<\/p>\n
This change has made the e-passport application process easier and faster, which will reduce time and hassle for citizens.<\/p>\n
