India has arrested 11 Indians on charges of spying for Pakistan, local media reported, citing police.<\/p>\n
NDTV reported on Monday that authorities have arrested nine “spies” from the northern states of Haryana, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh.<\/p>\n
Punjab’s Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said on Monday that police have arrested two people “involved in leaking sensitive military information”.<\/p>\n
He said police have received “credible intelligence” that the two men were involved in exchanging secret information related to New Delhi’s attack deep inside Pakistani territory on the night of May 6-7.<\/p>\n
Yadav added that initial investigations have shown that they were in “direct contact” with operators of Pakistan’s intelligence agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and “passed on important information about the Indian armed forces”.<\/p>\n
In Haryana, police arrested a travel blogger on the same charges last week.<\/p>\n
The accused woman had travelled to Pakistan at least twice and was in contact with an official at the country’s embassy, \u200b\u200blocal media reported, citing police.<\/p>\n
Others arrested include a student, a security guard and a businessman.<\/p>\n
India Today reported the arrest of 11 people.<\/p>\n
It said the accused were “lured into the spy network through social media, financial inducements, false promises, messaging apps and personal trips to Pakistan”.<\/p>\n
The arrests come after the worst outbreak of violence between the nuclear-armed rivals since the last open conflict between Pakistan and India in 1999.<\/p>\n
