Warning both the Prime Minister and Tarique Rahman, Allama Mamunul Haque stated, “I do not wish to see you face a fate similar to that of the autocrat Sheikh Hasina. Currently, all power is concentrated in your hands. Reforms must be implemented within the framework of the existing political system. Power should not be monopolized by the Prime Minister; instead, responsibilities should be distributed among various departments, and the judiciary must remain independent.”<\/p>\n
He made these remarks while addressing a citizens’ rally as the chief guest at the Naogaon Sadar Upazila Auditorium on Friday afternoon (September 4).<\/p>\n
The Naogaon district branch of Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis organized the rally to protest against the failure to implement the referendum verdict, the hike in fuel and electricity prices, and the deteriorating law and order situation.<\/p>\n
Mamunul Haque remarked, “I feel sorry for the BNP; they had long advocated for reforms and pledged to do so in their 31-point election manifesto. Yet, upon coming to power, they claim they never actually wanted a referendum or reforms. Why, then, did they agree to these terms back then? Had their demands not been accepted at that time, the election would not have taken place. Essentially, they reject the referendum because they have no intention of carrying out reforms.”<\/p>\n
Presided over by District Branch President Maulana Fazlul Haque Shah, the rally was addressed by the organization’s Joint Secretary General Maulana Ataullah Amin, District General Secretary Mufti Israfil Alam, and others. Central, district, and upazila-level leaders were present at the event.<\/p>\n
