Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher, the Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the National Parliament and MP for the Cumilla-11 (Chauddagram) constituency, left the Cumilla Circuit House without spending the night there due to a termite infestation in his allocated room.<\/p>\n
According to his associates, he departed the Circuit House at 11:15 PM on Friday after an alternative room was not promptly arranged despite his request to switch rooms.<\/p>\n
It has been learned that an 11-party alliance is set to begin a long march from Dhaka’s Shapla Chattar at 7:00 AM today, Saturday (September 5), concluding at the historic Laldighi Maidan in Chattogram, with a street rally scheduled in Chauddagram. As part of the preparations, Abdullah Mohammad Taher arrived at the Cumilla Circuit House from Dhaka around 8:45 PM on Friday. Room ‘Radhachura-202’ had been allocated for his stay.<\/p>\n
When he went to the room to rest around 10:00 PM, he discovered a large number of termites throughout the room. Termite nests and massive swarms were visible in several areas, particularly inside the wardrobe where pillows and blankets were stored. Disturbed by the situation, his Assistant Private Secretary (APS) asked the staff member in charge of the Circuit House to arrange for a different room and also requested a blanket.<\/p>\n
Arifur Rahman, the APS to Abdullah Mohammad Taher, and other associates stated that no immediate arrangements were made to change the room even after the issue was reported. He later informed the NDC (Executive Magistrate) of Cumilla about the matter via SMS. When an alternative room or accommodation was still not promptly provided, the Deputy Leader of the Opposition eventually decided to leave the Circuit House. He departed the premises at 11:15 PM on Friday.<\/p>\n
Confirming the incident, Md. Mahbubur Rahman, Secretary of the Cumilla Metropolitan Jamaat, remarked that such mismanagement in an important government facility like the Cumilla Circuit House is unfortunate. Questions have been raised regarding the failure to promptly arrange an alternative room after a problem arose in the room assigned to a prominent guest.

The district administration stated that they only learned of the matter after the Deputy Leader of the Opposition had already left the Circuit House. Steps are now being taken to investigate the incident and take action against the individuals responsible.<\/p>\n
When asked about the matter, Md. Saiful Islam, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) of Comilla, told the media around 12:30 AM on Saturday, “At night, the Circuit House staff called our NDC [Nazir-cum-District Collector] to report a problem with the room allocated to the Deputy Leader of the Opposition. The NDC immediately instructed the staff to change his room and ordered the cleaning of the room where the issue had occurred.”<\/p>\n
The Additional Deputy Commissioner added that, in the meantime, the NDC received another call from the Circuit House informing him that the Deputy Leader of the Opposition had already departed. He remarked that had the NDC or any district administration officials been aware of the situation immediately, such a scenario would not have arisen.<\/p>\n
Md. Saiful Islam further stated, “Following this incident, show-cause notices have been issued to those responsible for the Circuit House’s accommodation management. Necessary action will be taken once their responses are received. The fact that the Honorable Deputy Leader of the Opposition left the Circuit House is unfortunate for us as well.”<\/p>\n
