Religious Affairs Minister Kazi Shah Mofazzal Hossain Kaikobad has announced that the base cost of the 2027 Hajj package has been reduced compared to the 2026 package, as part of a commitment to establish a Hajj management system that is affordable, accessible, humane, and expatriate-friendly for the general public.<\/p>\n
The Minister presented this information on Monday in the National Parliament in response to a written question from Anisur Rahman (Madaripur-3), a member of the ruling party.<\/p>\n
The Minister stated that, bringing good news to Muslims across the country\u2014including those in the Madaripur-3 constituency\u2014the projected cost for the 2027 Hajj package has been set at a significantly lower level compared to the overall Hajj expenses of 2026.<\/p>\n
He noted that since Hajj management is a bilateral process, the total cost is divided into two parts: the Saudi Arabian component and the Bangladeshi component. Approximately three-quarters of the total expenditure is incurred within the Saudi component. This includes tent rentals in Mina and Arafat, local transportation, accommodation in Mina, Makkah, and Madinah, the sacrificial offering (Qurbani), visa fees, and health insurance fees.<\/p>\n
On the other hand, the remaining one-quarter of the cost falls under the Bangladeshi component, the bulk of which consists of airfare.<\/p>\n
The Religious Affairs Minister stated that in 2026, the price of the government’s lowest Hajj package\u2014excluding food costs\u2014was 4,67,137 Taka.<\/p>\n
He explained that for the current year (2027), considering the convenience of Hajj pilgrims, the cost of food has been included in the base package, adding 39,508 Taka to the total Hajj cost.<\/p>\n
Kazi Shah Mofazzal Hossain mentioned that the overall Hajj cost increased by another 700 Saudi Riyals\u2014approximately 23,240 Taka in local currency (calculated at 33.20 Taka per Riyal)\u2014because the Saudi government decided to withdraw the previously available lowest-tier ‘D-category’ service for Mina and Arafat. Additionally, costs rose by another 3,825 Taka due to adjustments in foreign currency exchange rates. The Religious Affairs Minister stated that if the base package structure from the previous year had remained unchanged after incorporating the aforementioned Saudi-side costs and meal expenses, the minimum Hajj package for this year would have stood at Tk 5,33,740.<\/p>\n
However, the Minister noted that through the Prime Minister’s personal and diplomatic interventions to manage the situation, it was possible to reduce airfares by Tk 24,830 in a single move compared to the previous year.<\/p>\n
He emphatically stated, “Reducing airfares for Hajj flights by Tk 24,830 at once is a groundbreaking milestone for the current government.”<\/p>\n
The Minister further informed that costs in other local and administrative sectors were also curtailed through continuous reviews by the Ministry of Religious Affairs. Consequently, despite the addition of all new expenses, the final price of the revised minimum Hajj package was brought down to Tk 5,05,648.<\/p>\n
He also mentioned that the Bangladesh government has intensified state-level and diplomatic coordination to urge the Saudi government to reconsider recent decisions regarding Hajj service management and pricing.<\/p>\n
He highlighted ongoing, vigorous efforts to persuade Saudi authorities to retain the previous minimum service package for Bangladeshi pilgrims in Mina and Arafat, and to increase the backup accommodation quota (or contingency capacity) from 1 percent to 2 percent to handle any emergency situations.<\/p>\n
The Minister expressed optimism that if these diplomatic initiatives succeed, it will be possible to further reduce overall Hajj costs in the future and elevate Bangladesh’s Hajj management system to international standards.<\/p>\n
