He stated that merely creating an innovation is not enough; it is essential to ensure funding for innovators, policy support, partnerships with industrial enterprises, intellectual property protection, and, above all, market access.<\/p>\n
He made these remarks on Thursday during a press briefing held at the Ministry of Science and Technology\u2019s conference room in Dhaka regarding the upcoming ‘Bangladesh Innovation Fair 2026’.<\/p>\n
Organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology, the three-day ‘Bangladesh Innovation Fair 2026’ will take place from September 12 to 14 at the Novotheatre in Dhaka. The Minister announced that Prime Minister Tareq Rahman, MP, would inaugurate the fair.<\/p>\n
The theme of this year’s fair is ‘Innovate to Market’. Speaking on this, the Science and Technology Minister noted that there is no shortage of talent, creativity, or promising ideas in Bangladesh. Students, researchers, startups, universities, and industrial enterprises are developing new solutions in their respective fields. However, a major challenge now lies in connecting these initiatives with investment, industry, and the market through an effective and integrated innovation ecosystem.<\/p>\n
He stated that the ‘Bangladesh Innovation Fair 2026’ has been organized precisely to establish this connection. More than 100 innovators\u2014including individual inventors and startup founders\u2014will showcase over a thousand innovations at the fair. Various public and private organizations from across the country will participate, including 73 public and private universities, leading commercial banks, and corporate and industrial enterprises.<\/p>\n
The Minister said, “Innovation can never flourish in isolation. It requires coordination among the government, academia, the industrial sector, financial institutions, development partners, and investors.” He highlighted that building a robust, sustainable, and market-oriented innovation ecosystem through such coordination is one of the primary objectives of the Bangladesh Innovation Fair. The Minister called upon all relevant stakeholders\u2014including universities, innovators, researchers, financial institutions, industrial and corporate entities, and the media\u2014to come forward and ensure the success of the Bangladesh Innovation Fair 2026. He stated that the media could play a pivotal role in showcasing innovations and innovators to the nation, raising public awareness about the importance of science and technology, and fostering a national dialogue on how innovation can drive Bangladesh’s future economy and society forward.<\/p>\n
He urged people from all walks of life, including the media, to visit the fair\u2014scheduled to be held at the Novotheatre from September 12 to 14\u2014and to share the stories of the innovators and their inventions with the nation.<\/p>\n
Speaking at the press briefing, Md. Anwar Hossain, Secretary of the Ministry of Science and Technology, said that the fair would bring together individual innovators, students, researchers, universities, corporate bodies, industrial firms, multinational companies, government agencies, international and local development organizations, SMEs, service providers, startups, and eco-friendly entrepreneurs onto a single platform. This initiative will create opportunities for effective communication and partnerships among innovators, investors, researchers, the industrial sector, and policymakers.<\/p>\n
He stated that a total of 17 sessions and dialogues\u2014including six plenary sessions, six parallel sessions, and five roundtable meetings\u2014will be held over the three days of the fair. Policymakers, think tanks, academics, industry leaders, researchers, young innovators, investors, and development partners will participate in these discussions.<\/p>\n
The Science Secretary noted that the discussions would seek answers to practical questions: what types of innovations are needed to address Bangladesh’s current and future challenges, which innovations can be implemented on a larger scale, and what policies, investments, and institutional support are required to bring them to market.<\/p>\n
Highlighting the initiative to establish an “Innovation Hub” as a key objective of the fair, the Secretary stated that the conclusion of the event does not mark the end of activities. Instead, it will launch the creation of an interconnected innovation hub centered around the more than one thousand innovations showcased at the fair. Through this initiative, promising innovations will be identified, and support will be provided for their development, financing, protection, and commercialization.<\/p>\n
He further mentioned that Bangladesh Bank, the National Board of Revenue (NBR), and the Department of Patents, Designs and Trademarks are involved as “Policy Partners” for the fair. The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is collaborating as a technical partner, while the Foreign Investors’ Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) is serving as a strategic partner.<\/p>\n
The fair\u2019s 14 priority sectors include frontier technology; information and digital technology; space, aerospace, and astronomy; health, medical, and life sciences; artificial intelligence, automation, and robotics; agriculture and food technology; nanotechnology and advanced materials; climate, environment, and sustainability; fintech, commerce, and business; and industrial manufacturing and hardware. Energy, Power, and Mobility; Education, Skills, and Human Development; Smart Cities, Infrastructure, and Urban Solutions; and Social, Creative, and Inclusive Solutions.<\/p>\n
Organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology, the fair is being implemented by the National Museum of Science and Technology, with Spellbound Communications Limited serving as the implementation partner.<\/p>\n
Senior officials, including the Additional Secretary of the Ministry, were present at the press briefing.
