Anthropic, a prominent US-based artificial intelligence (AI) company, has revealed that attempts were being made to use its AI model, ‘Claude’, to carry out serious criminal activities.<\/p>\n
The company detected and thwarted several dangerous attempts, ranging from learning how to manufacture missiles to executing international cyberattacks and engaging in covert data theft.<\/p>\n
A new report by the company states that an attempt was made in northern Yemen to develop software for long-range missiles and guided rockets using only AI intelligence, without the involvement of any human engineers.<\/p>\n
Although Anthropic’s internal security systems blocked most of these attempts, hackers tried to evade detection by breaking the task into smaller segments and issuing fragmented instructions to the AI. Ultimately, however, these malicious efforts were completely thwarted, and the associated accounts were shut down.<\/p>\n
Beyond missile-related activities, Claude was also being misused for global surveillance and cyberattacks. A group of hackers linked to Russia utilized the AI \u200b\u200bto steal data from military institutions and drone manufacturers in Europe and Ukraine.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, a Chinese group was using the AI \u200b\u200bas a primary tool to infiltrate government and private networks across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. A Chinese group even used Claude to generate and send fake messages in local languages \u200b\u200bto conduct covert surveillance on the Uyghur community in Syria and lure them into a trap.<\/p>\n
Recently, Anthropic researcher Jacob Coxon resigned, citing security risks and other concerns, and warned that the current trajectory of AI development could pose an extreme danger to humanity.<\/p>\n
Following these incidents, there have been strong calls in the United States for strict government regulations on AI technology. Simultaneously, such misuse of AI has sparked deep concerns regarding global military and political security.<\/p>\n
