On this day in 2008, after being detained for 372 days during the tenure of the then-caretaker government, she was released from a special prison established within the Parliament House complex.<\/p>\n
Since then, September 11 has been more than just a date for BNP leaders and activists; it is an emotional moment marking the end of a period of waiting, anxiety, and apprehension, and the celebration of the joy of freedom.<\/p>\n
Begum Khaleda Zia was detained on September 3, 2007, from her residence on Moinul Road in Dhaka Cantonment during the caretaker government’s rule.<\/p>\n
Upon being produced in court, her bail was denied, and she was ordered to be confined in a building within the Parliament House complex, which had been converted into a special prison.<\/p>\n
Days turned into months, and months into years. Throughout this entire period, party leaders, activists, supporters, and relatives waited anxiously outside the prison every day.<\/p>\n
Finally, on September 11, 2008, Begum Khaleda Zia was released from captivity.<\/p>\n
As news of her release spread, a massive crowd poured onto the streets in an instant. Some held flowers, while others had tears of joy in their eyes; there was immense enthusiasm among everyone to welcome their beloved leader.<\/p>\n
Many years have passed since then, yet September 11 remains vivid in the memories of those who believe in Bangladeshi nationalism.<\/p>\n
Begum Khaleda Zia\u2019s political journey was marked by various ups and downs, struggles, hardships, and adversities. Ultimately, the suffering of this uncompromising leader\u2014known as a symbol of democracy\u2014came to an end.<\/p>\n
Begum Khaleda Zia, the country’s first female Prime Minister, passed away on December 30, 2025. The outpouring of public affection following her death was unprecedented. Following one of the largest funeral prayers in the country’s history, she was laid to rest with state honors beside the grave of her husband\u2014Martyred President Ziaur Rahman, the proclaimer of Bangladesh’s independence and founder of the BNP in 1978.<\/p>\n
