BNP Acting Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has alleged that India is hatching a deep conspiracy against Bangladesh by sheltering those involved in genocide, including Sheikh Hasina. He stated that although the Bangladesh government has repeatedly urged for the return of Sheikh Hasina and her associates, India is ignoring these requests.<\/p>\n
He made these remarks on Wednesday while addressing a human chain and protest rally organized by the ‘Bangladesh Nationalist Muktijoddha Dal’ and ‘Projonmo Dal’ in front of the National Press Club.<\/p>\n
Rizvi said that India has granted shelter to Sheikh Hasina\u2014the person responsible for the bloodshed of 1,400 youths, students, ordinary citizens, and workers. Those who fired upon pro-democracy activists and committed genocide alongside her are also hiding there. Yet, despite the Bangladesh government repeatedly seeking their extradition based on court warrants, they have not been returned. He questioned why Sheikh Hasina is not being handed over, noting that in the past, India had handed over a former major accused in the assassination of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to Sheikh Hasina.<\/p>\n
Regarding the Prime Minister’s decision not to attend the BRICS summit, Rizvi explained that she was invited as the BIMSTEC Chair rather than being accorded the proper status due to the Prime Minister of an independent nation; consequently, she declined the invitation. He claimed that the very next day after the Prime Minister announced her decision not to attend the BRICS summit, a unit of the Adani power plant in Jharkhand, India, was reported to have malfunctioned. He described this as a “diplomatic ploy.”<\/p>\n
Describing the country’s gas and energy crisis as a global issue, Rizvi stated that the situation arose due to the conflict between Iran and the United States and the impasse in the Strait of Hormuz. He also claimed that the government is taking initiatives to import gas from East Asian countries\u2014including Malaysia, Indonesia, and Myanmar\u2014to tackle the crisis. At the same time, he praised the current government’s economic management, noting an increase in remittance inflows and foreign currency reserves.<\/p>\n
Rizvi remarked that the country had witnessed rampant looting, money laundering, enforced disappearances, and targeted killings over the past 16 years. He noted that the current government was formed through an election held on February 12, 2026, following the student-led mass uprising of August 5, 2024. He asserted that although the opposition party currently criticizes the government, no opposition leader has fallen victim to enforced disappearance or extrajudicial killing.<\/p>\n
Referring to the controversy surrounding Madhu’s Canteen, Rizvi stated that the people of the country would not accept any attempt to erase the achievements of 1971. He further remarked that the effort to turn Dhaka University’s Madhu’s Canteen into a “rest house” constitutes an insult to the supreme sacrifice made by Shaheed Madhu. Central leaders of the Muktijoddha Dal and Projonmo Dal were present at the human chain.<\/p>\n
