Following a flash procession by the Awami League\u2014a party whose activities are currently banned\u2014and its affiliated organizations, M Tanvir Ahmed, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of the DMP’s Gulshan Division, has been removed from his post. Prior to this, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gulshan Model Police Station had also been removed.<\/p>\n
This decision was announced on Wednesday (September 16) in an official order signed by DMP Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed. He has been instructed to hand over his responsibilities to the next senior officer and report to DMP Headquarters.<\/p>\n
The official order stated that M Tanvir Ahmed, Deputy Commissioner of the Gulshan Division, is being attached to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Headquarters for administrative reasons until further notice.<\/p>\n
Earlier that same day, another order signed by DMP Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed removed Md. Daud Hossain, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gulshan Model Police Station. That order stated that, for administrative reasons, Daud Hossain was being attached (recalled\/closed) to the Central Reserve Office of the DMP Headquarters and Administration Division, effective from the forenoon of September 16.<\/p>\n
It is worth noting that last Friday (September 11), around 11:45 AM, leaders and activists of the Awami League and its affiliated organizations\u2014whose activities are banned\u2014held a procession on the road adjacent to KFC on Road No. 3 in the capital’s Gulshan area. When police attempted to disperse the procession, the participants hurled crude bombs (cocktails) at them. Police arrested two individuals on the spot and recovered five crude bombs.<\/p>\n
Following this incident, at least 75 people have been arrested so far through subsequent operations.<\/p>\n
