The Election Commission (EC) has not yet reached a final decision regarding the commencement date for the Union Parishad (UP) elections. However, a consensus was reached during an inter-ministerial meeting to complete the UP elections by June 6 of next year. The final decision on the election schedule will be announced following discussions at a commission meeting.<\/p>\n
Election Commissioner Brigadier General (Retd.) Abul Fazal Md. Sanaullah disclosed this information to reporters on Thursday after the inter-ministerial meeting held at the conference room of the Election Bhaban in Agargaon. The meeting was convened in preparation for the upcoming local government elections and the by-election for the Thakurgaon-1 constituency.<\/p>\n
Abul Fazal Md. Sanaullah stated that the meeting included detailed discussions on the action plan announced by the commission regarding local government elections. He added that, similar to parliamentary elections, the army would be deployed to maintain law and order during the Thakurgaon-1 by-election.<\/p>\n
He noted that a consensus was reached to conclude the Union Parishad elections by June 6. He clarified that the timeframe previously mentioned by the commission was merely tentative.<\/p>\n
When asked if the elections would begin in November, the Election Commissioner stated that the data and information gathered from the meeting would be discussed at a commission meeting, after which the final decision regarding the election schedule would be announced.<\/p>\n
The meeting was presided over by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A M M Nasir Uddin and attended by the other four election commissioners, EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed, and other senior officials. Representatives from various government ministries, divisions, and agencies\u2014including the Cabinet Secretary, the Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration, and the Inspector General of Police (IGP)\u2014also participated.<\/p>\n
Representatives from numerous ministries and agencies attended the meeting, including the Cabinet Division, Bangladesh Bank, the Ministry of Public Administration, the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Armed Forces Division, the Secondary and Higher Education Division, the Ministry of Shipping, the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, and the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives. Additionally, representatives from the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, the Posts and Telecommunications Division, the Technical and Madrasah Education Division, the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), the Coast Guard, Ansar & VDP, DGFI, NSI, NTMC, the Bangladesh Post Office, the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit, and Bangladesh Bank were also asked to participate in the meeting.<\/p>\n
