Kamrunnahar Koli (10), a fourth-grade student from Kulunia in Pabna Sadar Upazila, was raped before being murdered. Neighbor Mostafa Kamal (55) and Yasin Ali (25)\u2014a tenant in Mostafa\u2019s house\u2014took turns raping the child; at one point during the assault, she fell ill, and they subsequently strangled her to death. Her body was then placed in a plastic sack to be dumped in a nearby ditch. However, they encountered difficulty fitting the lifeless body into the sack, so they severed her legs from the torso using a sharp weapon before finally stuffing the remains inside. During initial interrogation by the police, Mostafa and Yasin described the details of this brutal act committed against Koli.<\/p>\n
Police recovered Koli\u2019s dismembered body from the sack on Wednesday morning, seven days after she had gone missing. Koli was the daughter of Kamal Pramanik, a power-loom factory owner in Kulunia village, Dogachhi Union, Pabna Sadar Upazila, and a fourth-grade student at the local Al-Falah Academy. She had been missing since the evening of September 9, when she stepped out of her home to buy ice cream. Following the recovery of her body, her father, Kamal Pramanik, filed a case at the Pabna Sadar Police Station. Police subsequently detained neighbor Mostafa Kamal and their tenant Yasin as suspects. They were formally arrested after confessing to the rape and murder during interrogation.<\/p>\n
Mostafa Kamal was the son of the late Abdul Matin of Kulunia village, while Yasin was the son of Mohabbat Ali of Subarnasara village in Belkuchi Upazila, Sirajganj district. Yasin worked as a laborer in Koli\u2019s father\u2019s power-loom factory and rented the ground floor of Mostafa Kamal\u2019s two-story house.<\/p>\n
As of Thursday afternoon, preparations were underway to produce the accused (Mostafa and Yasin) before the court. Meanwhile, people from all walks of life\u2014including teachers, students, and guardians\u2014held a human chain in front of the Pabna Press Club on Thursday, demanding the immediate execution of those involved in this brutal rape and murder. Child students participated in the human chain holding placards with slogans such as “We want the right to live,” “We do not accept conspiracies against our rights,” “We demand the implementation of child rights laws,” and “We demand justice for Koli’s murder.” Speakers stated, “Koli was raped before being murdered. Such a brutal killing cannot be tolerated.”<\/p>\n
During initial interrogation, Mostafa and Yasin recounted the details of the incident. Police reported that Mostafa\u2019s home and grocery store were located about 500 yards from Koli\u2019s house. On the evening of the incident, Koli went to Mostafa\u2019s shop to buy ice cream. Mostafa lured her inside by promising to get ice cream from the refrigerator and then raped her. Yasin later joined him. The girl fell critically ill after being raped by the two men in turn. Realizing the situation had become dire, the monsters strangled Koli to death, stuffed her body into a sack, and dumped it in a ditch. As her entire body would not fit into the sack, they severed her legs.<\/p>\n
Tarikul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Pabna Sadar Police Station, stated that after Mostafa and Yasin were detained and confessed, they were formally arrested and are being produced before the court.<\/p>\n
