Rakibul Hasan, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the capital’s Cantonment Police Station, was withdrawn on Thursday after an audio clip containing controversial remarks attributed to him circulated on social media. The audio has been sent to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the police for forensic analysis to verify if the voice belongs to him. Simultaneously, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has formed a three-member committee, headed by a Deputy Commissioner (DC), to investigate the matter.<\/p>\n
Police sources indicate that following his withdrawal, OC Rakibul was taken to the DMP Detective Branch (DB) office on Thursday night for questioning. A DB source confirmed that he was interrogated there regarding various issues; however, DB Chief Additional Commissioner Shafiqul Islam denied that he had been taken to the DB office.<\/p>\n
The source further added that during questioning, Rakibul claimed the statements in the viral audio were not his. Consequently, the audio was sent to the CID’s forensic department to verify its authenticity and the voice.<\/p>\n
DMP headquarters sources confirmed the formation of the three-member investigation committee, led by a DC, to look into Rakibul’s alleged remarks. An official letter regarding the committee’s formation is expected to be issued on Saturday.<\/p>\n
Regarding this, Niaz Mehedi, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of the DMP Media Wing, said, “We do not yet have any official information on this matter.”<\/p>\n
Earlier, in the audio circulating on social media, a person identifying himself as OC Rakibul was heard making various comments about the government, the administration, the Bangladesh Army, and the police force. Allegations were also raised regarding the political affiliations of senior police officers and the exchange of money for OC postings and transfers.<\/p>\n
In one part of the audio, the individual is heard saying, “I know Sheikh Hasina is coming in December. Nothing will happen, really\u2014nothing will happen. You can imagine how weak the street-level police are. Terribly weak.”<\/p>\n
Comments were also made regarding the political affiliations of senior police officers. The audio further contained allegations that the driver of a senior police officer named ‘Monir’ plays a role in the posting of OCs. The individual raised various other allegations regarding the posting and transfer of Officers-in-Charge (OCs). Comments were also made concerning OC transfers that took place during the tenure of former IGP and DMP Commissioner Benazir Ahmed.<\/p>\n
Additionally, the audio contains remarks about the experience of working on behalf of senior police officials. However, the authenticity of the entire statement in the audio could not be independently verified. Rakibul denied that the audio was his; in a post on his Facebook profile, he claimed that the audio was created using artificial intelligence (AI) technology.<\/p>\n
DMP sources indicated that forensic and technical verification of the audio is currently underway. If the audio is proven authentic and matches Rakibul Hasan’s voice, departmental action may be taken against him.<\/p>\n
