Representative image. A brother and sister have drowned in a pond in Lalpur, Natore. The incident occurred this Saturday afternoon around 4:00 PM in Ishorpara village of the upazila.<\/p>\n
The deceased were Atiyara Khatun (9) and Abu Bakkar (6), children of Atikul Islam from Ishorpara village.<\/p>\n
Locals reported that the children, Atiyara Khatun and Abu Bakkar, were playing near their home in the afternoon. At one point, they entered a nearby pond. Their family was unaware of this. After not seeing the children for a long time, family members began searching for them. Around 5:00 PM, the siblings were found floating in the pond. Their bodies were subsequently recovered from the water.<\/p>\n
With a tear-choked voice, their father, Atikul Islam, said, “I had two children; they were the apple of my eye. They went to play together, and they left together. We didn’t even realize when they went into the pond. I have lost everything. What do I have left to live for now?”<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, a pall of gloom has descended upon the village following the simultaneous deaths of the siblings.<\/p>\n
Shafiqul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Lalpur Police Station, confirmed the incident, stating that police were dispatched to the scene upon receiving the news. As there were no complaints, the bodies were handed over to the family without an autopsy, in accordance with their request.<\/p>\n
