The price of fuel increased again. In one jump, the prices of four types of oil \u2013 diesel, kerosene, petrol and octane \u2013 have been increased by Rs 20 per litre.<\/p>\n
According to the notification issued yesterday, Sunday, the new prices will be effective from today, Monday, September 21. As a result, the price of diesel will increase by Tk 135, kerosene 155, petrol 160 and octane 165 per litre.<\/p>\n
Earlier, diesel was sold at 115, kerosene 135, petrol 140 and octane 145 per litre. That is, the price of four types of fuel increased by 20 rupees in one day.<\/p>\n
According to the notification of the Department of Energy and Mineral Resources, due to the ongoing war in the Middle East, fuel prices and freight charges have increased significantly in the international market since March.<\/p>\n
Although the price has more than doubled in the international market, it has not been fully adjusted in the country in the public interest. Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) has lost about 22 thousand 875 crore 66 lakh taka from March to August.<\/p>\n
Earlier, the price of diesel was increased by Tk 15 to Tk 115 from April 19. At the same time, kerosene by 18, petrol by 19 and octane by 20 rupees. Prices of kerosene, petrol and octane increased by Rs 5 in June. After that, prices remained unchanged through July, August and September.<\/p>\n
According to the information in the notification, the loss of BPC per liter of diesel is around Rs 89 at the current international market price. The daily loss is about Tk 109 crore. Diesel alone can cause a loss of around 40 thousand crore rupees per year.<\/p>\n
It has been mentioned in the notification that if the price is increased by 20 taka per liter, it will be possible to reduce the loss of BPC by about 10 thousand crore taka per year.<\/p>\n
If the new prices come into effect, the cost of transport, agriculture and freight may increase. This may affect the commodity market as well.<\/p>\n
BPC’s big financial pressure behind increasing oil prices<\/p>\n
Due to the increase in the price of fuel in the international market, the cost of imports has increased several times. On the other hand, Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) is incurring huge losses due to selling oil at relatively low prices in the country.<\/p>\n
The organization’s own funds have decreased rapidly. The government has now decided to provide Rs 4 to 5 thousand crore assistance to BPC to keep oil imports normal.<\/p>\n
According to related sources, BPC now has about 12 thousand 368 crores as a bank. With this money, the import expenses of September can be met, but there may be a financial crisis to continue importing oil in October.<\/p>\n
Oil prices since the beginning of the year<\/p>\n
At the beginning of this year, the price of fuel oil fell twice. In February, diesel 100, kerosene 112, petrol 116 and octane 120. Prices were unchanged in March.<\/p>\n
In April, diesel prices increased by Tk 15 or 15 percent, kerosene by Tk 18 or 16.07 percent, petrol by Tk 19 or 16.38 percent and octane by Tk 20 or 16.67 percent.<\/p>\n
In June, kerosene, petrol and octane were increased by Rs 5 each. The growth rate was 3.85 percent, 3.70 percent and 3.57 percent respectively. After that, prices remained unchanged through July, August and September.<\/p>\n
Currently diesel is Tk 115, kerosene Tk 135, petrol Tk 140 and octane Tk 145 per litre. Compared to January, the price of diesel is now 12.75 percent, kerosene 18.42 percent, gasoline 18.64 percent and octane 18.85 percent higher.<\/p>\n
