Bangladesh is signing an agreement to purchase another 11 aircraft from the US manufacturer Boeing. The signing is scheduled to take place in New York on Wednesday in the presence of Prime Minister Tareq Rahman.<\/p>\n
Diplomatic sources from both Bangladesh and the United States have confirmed this information to the media.<\/p>\n
Officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that following the signing of the new agreement, Boeing Global President Brendan Nelson will pay a courtesy call on Prime Minister Tareq Rahman.<\/p>\n
The agreement is scheduled to be signed at 4:15 PM local time in New York (2:15 AM Thursday, Bangladesh time) on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.<\/p>\n
This deal is considered a significant step in Biman Bangladesh Airlines’ fleet expansion program. It comes amidst ongoing competition between the US manufacturer Boeing and the European aerospace giant Airbus to supply a large portion of the national flag carrier’s future fleet.<\/p>\n
The procurement of these additional 11 aircraft will be in addition to Biman’s existing $3.7 billion contract.<\/p>\n
Under the agreement finalized last April, the decision was made to purchase eight Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners, two Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, and four Boeing 737-8 MAX jets. The market value of those 14 aircraft is approximately $3.7 billion USD, equivalent to around 45,000 crore Taka. According to that agreement, the first Boeing aircraft is scheduled to arrive in Bangladesh by November 2031, with the remaining aircraft expected to join Biman’s fleet by October 2035.<\/p>\n
With this new agreement, the total number of aircraft Biman is acquiring from the US company will rise to 25.<\/p>\n
Notably, on August 30, Sergio Gor\u2014the US Special Envoy for South and Central Asia and US Ambassador to India\u2014announced the information regarding Biman’s purchase of additional aircraft from Boeing in a post on X. Sergio Gor wrote in a post on X that an “unprecedented agreement” regarding Boeing purchases was reached this week between US President Donald Trump and the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Tareq Rahman.<\/p>\n
Subsequently, on August 31, US President Donald Trump sent a letter to Prime Minister Tareq Rahman. In the letter, the US President thanked the Prime Minister for the decision to purchase Boeing aircraft from the United States. He assured the Prime Minister that Boeing would not disappoint Bangladesh and noted that he would always remember the Prime Minister’s personal attention to this matter.<\/p>\n
