Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has detained three Rohingyas while they were handing over a consignment of arms, ammunition, and explosives near a Rohingya camp in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar.<\/p>\n
They were detained during an operation conducted yesterday (Sunday) morning in the Leda Bazar area of \u200b\u200bHnila Union, Teknaf. An easy-bike used to transport the weapons and equipment was also seized.<\/p>\n
The detainees are Md. Usman Belal (son of Rubali from Kutupalong Camp, Ukhiya), Md. Ansar Ali (son of Yunus from the same camp), and Md. Muslim (son of Faiz Ahmed from Mochni Camp, Teknaf).<\/p>\n
Lieutenant Colonel Md. Hanifur Rahman, Commander of Teknaf-2 BGB, stated that they had received intelligence indicating a consignment of arms would be handed over to an armed group near the Rohingya camp via the market. Acting on this information, a BGB operational team took up positions in the Leda Bazar area. Later, around 10:30 AM, BGB members signaled a suspicious easy-bike to stop as it passed through the area. Using a metal detector, they detected the presence of metallic objects inside a sack on the vehicle. Subsequently, the three individuals and the easy-bike were taken to the Leda Border Outpost (BOP) for a search. There, arms, ammunition, explosives, and various pieces of equipment were discovered hidden inside sacks of potatoes.<\/p>\n
The BGB reported that the seized items include two G-3 rifles, two locally-made single-barrel guns, 42 rounds of ammunition, three tasers, six walkie-talkie sets, one magazine, four kilograms of explosives, 25 containers of chewing tobacco (zarda), 25 rolls of red adhesive tape, and three mobile phones. The easy-bike used to transport the weapons and equipment was also seized.<\/p>\n
Lieutenant Colonel Md. Hanifur Rahman stated that three Rohingyas were detained near a Rohingya camp while a consignment of arms, ammunition, and explosives was being handed over. Weapons and explosives were recovered from them during the incident, and legal proceedings are currently underway.<\/p>\n
