In the first two months\u2014July and August\u2014of the current 2026-27 fiscal year, Bangladesh repaid foreign loans amounting to $698.92 million. In local currency, this figure stands at approximately Tk 8,626 crore.<\/p>\n
During the same period of the previous fiscal year, Bangladesh repaid loans totaling $667.11 million, equivalent to Tk 8,131 crore. Consequently, foreign loan repayments increased by $31.81 million over the span of one year.<\/p>\n
This information was disclosed yesterday, Sunday (September 27), in an updated report by the Economic Relations Division (ERD).<\/p>\n
According to the report, of the total amount paid in July and August, Bangladesh paid $516.04 million (approximately Tk 6,369 crore) toward loan principal installments. Additionally, $182.88 million (approximately Tk 2,257 crore) was paid as interest.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, foreign loan disbursements totaled $294.56 million during the first two months of the current fiscal year. Furthermore, Bangladesh secured new loan commitments amounting to $240 million during the July-August period. In the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year, the volume of such commitments stood at $243.8 million.<\/p>\n
