Fifteen people have died from dengue and measles infections in the country in a single day. According to data from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), these fatalities occurred during the 24-hour period following 8:00 AM on Saturday. Among the deceased, nine children died with symptoms of measles, while six people lost their lives to dengue.<\/p>\n
A DGHS bulletin on measles released yesterday stated that 1,155 people were admitted to hospitals with measles symptoms; of these, 113 were confirmed to have the disease. During this period, deaths occurred as follows: four in Dhaka Division, two in Sylhet Division, two in Chattogram, and one in Mymensingh Division.<\/p>\n
This brings the total number of deaths involving measles symptoms so far this year to 995. Confirmed cases of measles have claimed 101 lives. The combined death toll from confirmed measles and cases presenting with measles symptoms stands at 1,096. Among those who died with measles symptoms, the highest number of fatalities (448) occurred in Dhaka Division. Sylhet Division follows with 175 deaths. Additionally, 93 people died in Rajshahi, 79 in Mymensingh, 81 in Chattogram, 60 in Barishal, 44 in Khulna, and 15 in Rangpur Division.<\/p>\n
The bulletin further noted that during the mentioned period, 1,228 patients with symptoms visited hospitals across the country, with 1,155 of them being admitted.<\/p>\n
Among the newly admitted patients with measles symptoms, 309 were in Dhaka Division, 313 in Chattogram, 153 in Sylhet, 127 in Barishal, 93 in Khulna, 96 in Mymensingh, 28 in Rajshahi, and 36 in Rangpur.<\/p>\n
The DGHS has been tracking cases and deaths related to measles and its symptoms since March 15. To date, the total number of suspected measles cases in the country has reached 188,041, while the number of confirmed cases stands at 21,212.<\/p>\n
During this period, a total of 166,310 people were hospitalized with suspected measles; of these, 159,519 have recovered and been discharged. Meanwhile, 2,158 people were hospitalized with dengue in the 24 hours leading up to 8:00 AM yesterday\u2014the highest single-day admission figure of the year. During the same period, six people died from this Aedes mosquito-borne disease.<\/p>\n
Statistics show that the total death toll from dengue since the beginning of the year stands at 225 as of September 27; of these, 128 deaths occurred in September alone.<\/p>\n
According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) bulletin on dengue, 311 patients were admitted to hospitals in the Dhaka North City Corporation area and 197 in the Dhaka South City Corporation area over the last 24 hours. Outside the two city corporations, 356 patients were admitted to various hospitals across the Dhaka division. During this period, hospital admissions included 227 in Barishal, 345 in Chattogram, 329 in Khulna, 132 in Mymensingh, 176 in Rajshahi, 73 in Rangpur, and 12 in Sylhet.<\/p>\n
In the same period, 1,755 patients were discharged from hospitals. So far this year, a total of 73,694 people have been hospitalized with dengue; of them, 68,006 have recovered and been discharged. There have been 225 deaths during this time, leaving 5,463 patients currently undergoing treatment in various hospitals.<\/p>\n
The DGHS has been maintaining records of dengue-related hospital admissions and deaths in the country since 2000. The highest number of hospitalizations\u2014321,179\u2014was recorded in 2023, a year that also saw the highest death toll at 1,705. Last year, there were 413 deaths and 102,861 hospital admissions. In 2024, 101,214 people were hospitalized, and 575 deaths were recorded.<\/p>\n
