President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called for advancing research and innovation in modern technology\u2014specifically artificial intelligence (AI), nanotechnology, biotechnology, and the semiconductor sector\u2014for the public good. He made this call yesterday at Bangabhaban while meeting a delegation led by Professor Dr. Muhammad Masud, Vice-Chancellor of Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET).<\/p>\n

The President stated, “We must remain vigilant to ensure that AI is not used in an uncontrolled or arbitrary manner.”<\/p>\n
He noted that the unregulated use of AI is diminishing human cognitive ability and creative talent; therefore, it is essential to ensure its use is measured and directed toward the public welfare.<\/p>\n
During the meeting, the Vice-Chancellor briefed the President on the university’s overall academic activities. The President remarked, “It is necessary to decentralize the advanced education system rather than keeping it centered solely in the capital.”<\/p>\n
He also emphasized the importance of further involving universities in national-level research and development (R&D) activities.<\/p>\n
When the Vice-Chancellor formally invited the President to attend KUET’s upcoming convocation ceremony in his capacity as Chancellor, the President accepted the invitation and assured his attendance.<\/p>\n
The President’s Military Secretary, Secretary, and Press Secretary, along with university professors, were present during the meeting.<\/p>\n
Meeting with the Japanese Ambassador: On the same day, the Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh, Iwama Kiminori, paid a courtesy call on President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at Bangabhaban.<\/p>\n
During the meeting, detailed discussions were held regarding the long-standing friendly relations between the two countries and ways to enhance cooperation in various sectors, including infrastructure, trade and investment, human resource development, agriculture, energy, and employment. The President’s Press Secretary, Md. Sarwar Alam, provided these details. During the meeting, Ambassador Saida Shin-ichi handed over a congratulatory message from Emperor Naruhito of Japan to the President.<\/p>\n
In the message, Emperor Naruhito extended sincere greetings to the President on his recent election and wished for the happiness and prosperity of the people of Bangladesh.<\/p>\n
The President expressed his sincere gratitude to the Emperor for the message and conveyed his own warm greetings and appreciation to the Emperor and the people of Japan. He also wished the Emperor good health, well-being, and longevity.<\/p>\n
The President expressed gratitude for Japan’s long-standing friendship and development partnership. He commended Japan’s cooperation in various infrastructure development projects in Bangladesh, including the Dhaka Metro Rail and the Meghna Bridge. He also expressed hope that the operation and management of the Third Terminal at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, supported by Japan, would commence soon. In response, the Ambassador stated that the project work would be completed quickly.<\/p>\n
The President thanked Japan for providing employment opportunities to Bangladeshi workers. He also urged Japan to explore the possibility of establishing vocational training centers in Bangladesh for technical education and Japanese language learning. He emphasized the need to further expand scholarship opportunities for Bangladeshi students.<\/p>\n
The President invited Japanese investment in various sectors across the country\u2014particularly in the northern regions\u2014including the processing of fruits, crops, and agricultural products.<\/p>\n
The Ambassador expressed interest in this regard and reiterated Japan’s keenness to further enhance economic cooperation. He also pledged cooperation in addressing volatility in the global energy market and ensuring energy security for Bangladesh.<\/p>\n
The President’s Military Secretary, Secretary, Press Secretary, and an Additional Secretary from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs were present during the meeting.<\/p>\n
