The administration has assured that a case will be filed by Monday regarding the attack on journalists at Rajshahi University (RU). Journalists stated that they have temporarily stepped back from their protest program based on this assurance; however, they remain firm on their demands, including the arrest of the attackers.<\/p>\n
The attack by Chhatra Dal members on the journalists took place around 8:30 PM yesterday in front of the university’s Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Hall. Several journalists were injured, with four sustaining serious injuries. In protest, the journalists demanded that a case be filed against the accused and that they be arrested and subjected to disciplinary action.<\/p>\n
Their demands include the university administration filing a case against those involved in the attack and ensuring the arrest of the accused by 12:00 PM on Monday. They also demanded the cancellation of the studentship of any attackers who are currently enrolled and the revocation of the academic certificates of those who have already completed their studies. Additionally, they demanded a ban on the campus entry of any accused individuals who are not university students.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, the journalists demanded that the administration publish its decision regarding the filing of the case and the cancellation of the accused individuals’ studentship on the university website via a press release before the night was over.<\/p>\n
The journalists temporarily withdrew from their protest program after the university administration assured them that a case regarding the attack would be filed by Monday. They stated that a decision regarding future courses of action would be made later if the case is not filed as promised.<\/p>\n
University Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Alim, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Professor Dr. Mamunur Rashid, Proctor Professor Dr. Md. Mahbubur Rahman, hall provosts, and other relevant university officials were present at the time.<\/p>\n
Allegations have been raised against several leaders and activists\u2014including Ahsan Habib, Vice-President of the university unit of Chhatra Dal\u2014regarding the attack on journalists in front of Ziaur Rahman Hall last night. Among the injured are Arif Uzzaman Korban, university correspondent for bdnews24.com; Jahidul Islam, correspondent for Agamir Somoy; Noor Ahsan Mridul, correspondent for The Daily Star; and Mainul Islam Raju, correspondent for the Daily Samakal.<\/p>\n
