The lock on the door of the Vice-Chancellor’s room at Rajshahi Medical University (RMU) was cut open in the presence of Executive Magistrate Md. Arif Hossain. The room was unlocked on Thursday afternoon at the university’s temporary campus.<\/p>\n
Earlier, leaders and activists of the BNP escorted Vice-Chancellor Professor Jawadul Haque from his residence in Upashahar to the university’s temporary campus. Present on the occasion were Metropolitan BNP Vice-President Zainal Abedin Shibli, Swechchhasebak Dal General Secretary Asaduzzaman Joni, Jubo Dal Convener Md. Shariful Islam Joni, former Chhatra Dal President Akbar Ali Jacky, and General Secretary Emdadul Haque Limon, among others.<\/p>\n
After the room was unlocked, the investigating officer collected necessary evidence from the Vice-Chancellor’s office.<\/p>\n
Executive Magistrate Md. Arif Hossain said, “An outsider had placed a lock on the room. The lock has been removed, and the room has been handed over to the investigating officer. The law and order situation there is currently normal.”<\/p>\n
Metropolitan Jubo Dal Convener Shariful Islam Joni stated that, acting on central BNP directives, they had respectfully escorted the Vice-Chancellor from his home. He emphasized that the BNP and its affiliated organizations do not condone any form of occupation or terrorist activity. He added that organizational action would be taken against any party leader or activist found involved in the untoward incident.<\/p>\n
Allegations arose last Tuesday that several individuals had surrounded the Vice-Chancellor at the RMU temporary office and forced him to sign a document. According to the Vice-Chancellor, he was not allowed to read the document; fearing humiliation or assault, he felt compelled to sign it. He was subsequently escorted out of the office.<\/p>\n
A case has been filed regarding this incident, naming 50 to 60 unidentified individuals as accused. Three people have been arrested so far; most recently, police arrested Ali Akbar Hossain and Delwar Hossain on Wednesday night. Police stated that several others have been identified through the analysis of video footage and photographs of the incident.<\/p>\n
University Section Officer Md. Nazmul Hossain stated that Land Minister Mizanur Rahman Minu would visit RAMEBI on Thursday evening.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, leaders from Jamaat-e-Islami, Chhatra Dal, Jubo Dal, and Ulama Dal inspected the medical university area from the morning to maintain a normal situation.<\/p>\n
