Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury stated that the current government is working to expand the country’s creative economy alongside fostering children’s intellectual, creative, and cultural development.<\/p>\n
He made these remarks on Thursday (October 8) while speaking as the chief guest at the closing ceremony marking the 50th anniversary of the Bangladesh Shishu Academy.<\/p>\n
The Finance Minister described the Shishu Academy as an institution that charts the course for shaping children’s futures. He noted that the academy reflects the government’s vision regarding how the nation’s children will grow up and how their lives will be shaped.<\/p>\n
Emphasizing the importance of children acquiring humane qualities, the Minister stated that they must learn to be sensitive towards family, nature, the environment, animals, birds, and insects from an early age.<\/p>\n
Highlighting the significance of women’s empowerment and equal rights for boys and girls, the Finance Minister cited examples from his own life. He mentioned that he provided equal opportunities for higher education to both his son and daughter and ensured they had equal rights to property.<\/p>\n
Noting the importance of sports, arts, and cultural activities alongside formal education, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury mentioned that approximately 145,000 boys and girls\u2014including over 45,000 girls\u2014participated in the nationwide “Notun Kuri” sports initiative. He asserted that children should excel not only in academics but also in art, music, theater, and sports, adding that a nation’s true strength lies in its “soft power.”<\/p>\n
Speaking on economic planning, the Finance Minister announced that the Ministry of Finance is set to open up a new horizon known as the “creative economy.” Through this initiative, the government aims to integrate and support not only the country’s theater, art, and film sectors but also grassroots artisans\u2014such as weavers, blacksmiths, and potters\u2014into the national economy, ensuring equal opportunities for every citizen. Highlighting the global context and economic challenges, the Finance Minister stated that it is possible to build a prosperous Bangladesh\u2014where the future of children is secured\u2014through the collective strength and patience of all.<\/p>\n
Presided over by Dr. Rawshan Ara Begum, Secretary of the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, the event was attended by special guests Professor Dr. AZM Zahid, Minister of Women and Children Affairs and Social Welfare; Selima Rahman, Chairperson of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs; and Mst. Arju Ara Begum, Director General of the Bangladesh Shishu Academy.<\/p>\n
At the conclusion of the event, the Finance Minister handed over prizes to the children who had won various competitions.<\/p>\n
