Former IGP Shahidul Haque gave a message to ‘dispatch’ to stop the mass procession coming towards Ganobhaban from Uttara of the capital on the last day of the students’ movement.
A senior officer of Ramna Detective Division told the media that Shahidul Haque was remanded in DB custody.
The senior officer of Ramana Detective Division said that on the last day of the largest mass movement of students in the history of the country, on the morning of August 5, a message was sent twice on WhatsApp from a mobile number in his name. The message was sent to a senior police officer of the DMP active in suppressing the agitation that day. He is currently in the custody of law enforcement agencies.
He gave a message to ‘dispatch’ to stop the mass procession coming from Uttara towards Ganabhaban. If he really did it, it would be a terrible provocation. The message is being checked by IT support. It is being investigated to whom such messages have been sent. He said that if proved, a case will be filed against him under the Anti-State Conspiracy and Cyber Security Act.
It is to be noted that the media and public relations department of DMP informed that former Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Haque was arrested by Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DB) from Uttara Sector 16 on the night of September 3. The next day on September 4 (Wednesday) in the morning, he was arrested in the murder case and handed over to the court asking for permission to remand for 10 days. Dhaka’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court granted Shahidul Haque’s 7-day remand in the case of the murder of businessman Abdul Wadud of the capital’s New Market.
After the seven-day remand, Shahidul Haque was produced in the court on Wednesday morning (September 11) and requested to be detained in jail. In view of the application, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ali Haider ordered to send him to jail.
Awami League government appointed Shahidul Haque as IGP on December 30, 2014. He retired on January 31, 2018. After that, Shahidul Haque collected nomination papers from Awami League to fight in Shariatpur-1 (Palang-Jazira) seat in the 12th National Parliament election with the boat symbol. Although Awami League did not give him party nomination.
