Trawler sinks while fishing in Charfassan, 7 fishermen missing

A fishing trawler with 10 trawlers drowned in the South Bay of Bengal estuary at Dhal Char, Bhola Charfasan. Other fishermen in the immediate sea rescued three fishermen alive but 7 others are missing.

The accident took place at 5:30 pm today on Friday afternoon when Sagar was on his way back to Dhalchar Ghat after hunting fish from the Bay of Bengal estuary when he was hit by a stormy wave.

The owner of the trawler has confirmed that rescue operations for the missing fishermen are continuing soon after the accident. However, the identity of the fishermen was not immediately known. However, these fishermen are known to be residents of Dhal Char and Char Manika Union.

The fishermen of Dhalchar Ghat said that on Thursday morning Aktar Majhi went fishing in the sea with 10 fishermen from Dhalchar Ghat. After being in the sea for two days, the trawler of Akhtar Majhi sank in the sea on the way back from the sea to Dhalchar Ghat as the sea was rough due to adverse weather conditions. Other fishermen in the sea rescued three fishermen alive but could not rescue 7 fishermen.

The owner of the trawler, Abdus Salam Howladar, said that on Thursday, the fishing trawler owned by him went fishing in the sea with 10 sailors. The trawler carrying 10 fishermen met with an accident on its way back to the ghat on Friday afternoon. Other fishermen in the sea managed to rescue 3 fishermen but 7 fishermen are still missing. On receiving information, three trawlers left the sea from Dhalchar Ghat to rescue the missing fishermen.

Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer Maruf Hossain Minar said, I was not informed about the sinking of the trawler. But I am looking for information.

Naval Contingent Commander of Char Manika Zone. Sanwar Hossain said, the incident is not known. However, search and rescue operations will be conducted.
