The South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) has not held a summit since 2014. In this situation, the Chief Advisor of the Interim Government has inquired about the cooperation activities of SAARC. Muhammad Yunus.

On Tuesday (September 17), Ambassador of Nepal to Bangladesh Ghanshyam Bhandari paid a courtesy visit to the Chief Adviser’s official residence in Yamuna. At this time, the Chief Advisor inquired about SAARC.

The headquarters of SAARC is located in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal.

Ambassador Bhandari congratulated the Chief Adviser for taking over the leadership of the interim government after the student-led mass uprising.

In the meeting, the Ambassador of Nepal highlighted the importance of strengthening regional cooperation through SAARC and BIMSTEC and working closely in various multilateral forums.

The ambassador said the two South Asian countries are members of SAARC and BIMSTEC and both countries have “excellent” bilateral relations. The two countries have a very deep bond of history and people-to-people interaction. He said that the economic engagement between the two countries is still at a moderate level.

Ambassador Bhandari apprised the Chief Adviser about Nepal’s huge hydropower potential and hoped that the two countries would be able to start trade soon. He expressed gratitude for the generous offer of the Bangladesh government to Nepal for the use of Chittagong and Mongla ports.

The ambassador especially appreciated the government of Bangladesh for inviting a significant number of Nepalese students for medical education. He said that many doctors of Nepal have studied from Bangladesh.
