Each family of the martyrs killed in the anti-discrimination movement will be initially given 5 lakh taka and each injured person will be given a maximum of 1 lakh taka.
This decision was taken in the first meeting of the Executive Committee of Juli Shaheed Smriti Foundation under the chairmanship of Chief Adviser to the Interim Government Professor Muhammad Yunus at the Rashtriya Guest House Yamuna on Wednesday (September 18).
This information was informed in a message sent from the press wing of the Chief Adviser.
A commemorative ceremony will be held to compensate the injured as soon as possible, the release said. Checks will be handed over to the families of the martyrs. The committee headed by the Chief Adviser has called upon people from all walks of life, Bangladeshi diaspora, organizations and businesses to donate to the foundation.
At the meeting the committee decided to find an office space and volunteers to run its activities. It will preserve all videos, photographs, oral histories and other documents and memorabilia of the July-August mass uprising.
Professor Muhammad Yunus said in the meeting that the donation of small amount of money should be documented and the list of donors should also be preserved. If possible, their names should be published on the foundation’s website.
This is an important milestone, said the chief adviser. We must work hard to make it successful.
He said that the health ministry will pay the medical expenses of the injured. Apart from government medical expenses, the foundation will compensate the injured.
Interim government advisers Sharmin Murshid, Nahid Islam and Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, general secretary of the foundation Mir Mahbubur Rahman Snigdha and treasurer of the foundation Kazi Waqar Ahmad were present in the meeting.
