The court acquitted BNP Acting Chairman Tariq Rahman from the sedition case in Noakhali.

District and Sessions Judge and Special Court Judge Ahsan Tarek announced the verdict on Tuesday (October 1) around 11:30 am. Tariq Rahman’s lawyer, Advocate ABM Zakaria, confirmed this information.

According to court sources, on December 15 and 17, 2014, acting chairman of BNP, Tariq Rahman, sat in London and commented that Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was a ‘razakar’ Pakbandhu. Later which was published in various media. Ekramul Haque Biplab, Joint Convener of Noakhali District Jubo League filed this treason case at Begumganj police station on February 27, 2015 accusing Tariq Rahman in this incident. Later, the court issued an arrest warrant against Tariq Rahman in this case.

Advocate ABM Zakaria also said that the plaintiff Jubo League leader filed a false case. Legal action will be taken against him for filing a false case and harassment in this incident.
