Dhaka //
Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Senior Joint Secretary General of BNP, said that the elements of democracy that exist before the elections must be ensured. That is to consider the recommendations of democracy through elections when the new government comes. So we are asking you (interim government) to complete the reforms as soon as possible and hold free and fair elections.
He said these things while meeting the families of BUBT students Tahmid and Masud Rana who were martyred in the mass uprising of students in Mirpur on Thursday (October 3). Local activists of BNP were present at the time.
Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said, ‘Election is one of the criteria of democracy. The people of Bangladesh were deprived of this election for the last 15-16 years. Free and fair elections are an element of democracy. Although it cannot be measured by anything. It is a psychological issue of a nation, whether I am a prisoner or not. Even outside the prison, when fascism is there, I feel like a prisoner. That is why it (democracy) cannot be calculated by counting.
He said, “We have to see to ensure that the cultivation of fair elections, rule of law and freedom of the press and the judiciary is to make the democracy complete.” And the people will see how the interim government is doing its work through reforms. Democracy is like the flow of a river, it cannot be held back. The more the water of democracy flows, the clearer it will be. If it gets stuck, then the continuity of democracy for hundreds of years is no longer achieved.
