Bakerganj (Barisal) Representative //
An allegation of idol vandalism has been received at Shyampur Durga Puja Mandap of Rangashree Union in Barisal’s Bakerganj. In the late night of October 3 (Thursday), the incident of vandalism took place at the public Sri Sri Durga Mandir at Deuri Bari, Paschim Shyampur.
Shankar Deuri, General Secretary of West Shyampur Deuri Bari Mandir, said that his mother came to the temple to pay obeisance on Friday morning and saw that the idol had been vandalized. But there is no gate in front. A total of 14 idols were built in this temple. Among them, 7 idols have been vandalized.
Temple Management Committee President Nirmal Chandra Khaskel (75) said that Durga Puja has been going on in this temple for an age. Such an event has never happened before. However, he demanded that those involved in idol vandalism be brought under the law.
Bakerganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mohammad Saifur Rahman said that the incident site was visited by the authorities including DIG Sir. The investigation is ongoing.
