Professor Anu Muhammad commented that there are some weaknesses in the interim government. He felt that the government’s voice needs to be louder regarding the various killings and attacks on temples, shrines. He criticized the government for not being able to prepare the list of martyrs in the July movement and ensure the treatment of the injured even in two months.
Anu Muhammad said these things in a discussion titled ‘Two Months of Interim Government: Review, Proposals, Exchange of Opinion’ at Dhaka University’s Natmandal on Saturday. It was organized under the banner of Democratic Rights Committee.
In the beginning, human rights activist Maha Mirza presented 13-point proposal as an immediate action of the interim government. These demands include publication of the list of martyrs, dead and injured in the July uprising and responsibility for the families; Ensuring the justice of all including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, former ministers, MPs, bureaucrats, police, party terrorists involved in the murder; To outline a democratic constitution and finalize it based on public opinion; Immediate end to gang violence and killings; Taking appropriate measures to stop attacks on temples, shrines, mosques, works of art and religious institutions and houses; To provide security of life and property of all and to ensure the rights of people of hills and plains.
Referring to each point of these 13 points, Anu Muhammad said, the implementation of these demands is not difficult. They will submit it to the interim government. The government will review these claims with six months or more time if necessary. He also criticized the delay in forming the government’s reform commissions.
Former President of the Communist Party of Bangladesh Mujahidul Islam Salim said that the interim government is not a revolutionary government. Their mandate is limited. Their main task is to facilitate a return to a natural government through free elections. Before this, a convention should be held to amend the constitution. Proposals to amend the constitution should be made based on people’s opinions.
Professor Samina Lutfa alleged that women are being attacked even after the July movement. He said, women are being given various tags. The government cannot evade its responsibility by making excuses or conspiracies. Apart from this, the injured people of the July movement are not receiving treatment, this news is hurtful.
Human rights activist Ilira Dewan said that the July movement demanded a society without discrimination. This must be ensured in the hills as well as in the plains.
Sufi saint Kazi Jaber Ahmed alleged that 60-70 shrines were broken after August 5. He claimed to have been infected himself. Rezwana Snigdha, professor of anthropology at Jahangirnagar University, said that the question of who was left and right in the July movement did not arise. Then Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, Christians, Paharis, madrasa students—all of them protested together. Within two months now various tags have started to be given. Why is this, he asked.
The president of Pahari Chhatra Odhikar Parishad said, “During the period of fascism, I went home only four times in the last 10 years. There was no change in the mountain. Even after the fall of fascism, I could not go home.
Highlighting the situation in the garment factory, Saiful Islam, a garment worker, said that he had not received his salary for August and September. In October, it is said that the condition of the factory is not good. He took a month’s leave without pay. He said, “Now if I take to the streets to demand my salary, I will be given a tag.” Will be called a conspirator.
