Cyclone Dana formed in the Bay of Bengal will hit Odisha, India with maximum strength. It will then move towards West Bengal. India Meteorological Department director general Mruthinjay Mohapatra said this information in the latest update on Thursday.
According to news agency ANI, the cyclone Dana turned into a severe cyclonic storm on Wednesday midnight and moved towards the north-northwest. At noon, the cyclone was located 200 km southeast of the coast.
He also said that the worst impact of the cyclone will be in Odisha. Then it will go to the coastal regions of West Bengal. But after hitting the coast, the cyclone is expected to move west-northwestward. This may increase the amount of rain in South Jharkhand. We are forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall there.
Meanwhile, the cyclone is expected to hit Odisha for the first time on Thursday night. At that time, its wind speed can be up to 120 km per hour.
The cyclone will affect the coastal districts of Bangladesh except Odisha and West Bengal in India. Heavy rains are already occurring in different parts of the country due to the cyclone.
The state government of Odisha has started measures to prevent the arrival of the very strong Cyclone Dana in the Bay of Bengal and possible damage due to it. The work of evacuating a total of 1 million 60 thousand 336 people from various areas of the state to safe places has started.
According to the Indian administration, 1 million people need to be moved to safe places. Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has set a deadline for the district administration to reach the nearest flood centers to the residents.
Baleshwar, Bhadrak and Kendrapara are the worst affected areas in the state. Many people have been evacuated from all these areas. Bhubaneswar’s Biju Patnaik Airport will remain closed for flight services for 16 hours from 5 pm on Thursday.
