The Home Affairs Adviser told the United Nations about Bangladesh’s position on human rights issues

Interior Advisor Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said that compared to many countries in the world, Bangladesh’s position on human rights issues is much better. He said this in a briefing after meeting with UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk on Tuesday (October 29).

Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said that human rights are being violated in various ways in different parts of the world including the Middle East. Considering that, the rate of human rights violations in Bangladesh is very low and the situation is improving day by day.

The notification sent by the Ministry of Home Affairs mentioned that human rights issues were mainly discussed in the meeting.

He said that we should cooperate with them on the issue of human rights. They have sought full cooperation in this regard. Moreover, they have assured cooperation in the work of various reform commissions and transition in the changed situation.

Referring to the protection of human rights, the Home Affairs Adviser said that the issue of protection of human rights has also been discussed in the Police Reform Commission. Besides, they suggested to ensure that witness protection and victim protection are given priority in our judicial process.
