Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan, Advisor to the Ministry of Youth and Sports and Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, said that stadiums will be built in every upazila of the country. These stadiums will be named after the martyrs of the July Uprising in that upazila.
It will take more time to publish the complete list of those killed in the July Uprising. Mass graves are still being found. He also said that a chapter will be added to the textbook to spread the history of the July-August mass revolution.
He said these things while speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of the ‘Shahid Farhan Fayyaz Playground’ for the physically challenged on the west side of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Saturday afternoon.
Asif Mahmud said that this field has been named Shahid Farhan Playground. I have named the Kushtia district stadium Shahid Abrar Fahad Stadium. The Tangail district stadium has been named after Maruf, who was martyred in police firing. There will be more than 220 upazila stadiums. We have taken a policy decision that these 220 stadiums will be named after the martyrs of that upazila.
Commenting that it will never be possible to repay the sacrifice and blood of the martyrs, the advisor to the Ministry of Youth and Sports said, but we are trying to show as much respect as we can.
Regarding the inclusion of the July Uprising in the textbook, the advisor said, we have a plan to highlight the stories of the martyrs in next year’s textbooks so that our next generation can read about the July Uprising, and the Ministry of Education is taking that effort. However, due to the shortage of time in the 2025 textbooks, the inclusion may not have been as visible. One chapter will be about our July Uprising and the memories of our martyrs will be written there.
Shahidul Islam, father of Fayyaz, who was present at the event, urged that the sacrifice of the martyrs of the July Uprising should not be lost. He urged that efforts should continue.
Present at the time were – Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Md. Rezaul Maqsud Zahedi, Secretary of the National Parliament Secretariat Dr. Md. Anwar Ullah (FCMA), Shaheed Farhan Fayyaz’s mother Mrs. Farhana Diba.
