In the future, anyone who launders money will be caught, said Finance Advisor Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed.
He said this at a seminar titled ‘Policy Dialogue on Financial and Economic Reforms in Bangladesh’ in the capital’s Mohakhali on Saturday (November 16) afternoon.
The advisor said, ‘Work is being done to get out of the looting that has taken place in the economic sector. The development strategy that only shows development in the economy has to be changed.’
Salahuddin Ahmed said that there is a need for middlemen, ‘But because of them, the price of goods increases. Efforts are being made to reduce them.’
The Finance Advisor said that policy and implementation will be separated in the revenue sector. He said, ‘Most of the institutions are on the verge of collapse. Many projects have been done, feasibility tests have not been done. No tax has been paid on Adani. Time has been taken to give money to Adani.
Multilateral and bilateral partners have assured cooperation in the field of reforms. If there is no economic stability, foreign partners will also reduce assistance, Salehuddin Ahmed said.
Stating that arrangements are being made to bring back the laundered money, he added, “If anyone launders money in the future, they will be caught. Whether it is the private or public sector, they will be caught.”
Urging politicians to follow the footsteps of the interim government, the finance advisor said, “Efforts will be made to address financial and political challenges.”
