Nine former ministers of the ousted Awami League government, two advisors, a retired judge and a former secretary, along with 13 accused, have been shown arrested in the July-August genocide case.
They were officially shown arrested after being produced before the International Crimes Tribunal on Monday (November 18) morning.
They are – former Law Minister Anisul Haque, Faruk Khan, Dr. Dipu Moni, Rashed Khan Menon, Hasanul Haque Inu, Shajahan Khan, Junaid Ahmed Palak, former Prime Minister’s Advisor Salman F Rahman, Toufiq-e-Elahi, former State Minister Kamal Ahmed Majumder, Golam Dastagir Gazi, retired Appellate Division Justice Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik and former Home Secretary Jahangir Alam.
Earlier this morning, 13 accused were produced before the tribunal from jail. Former minister Abdur Razzak was supposed to be brought to the tribunal, but he was not produced as he was on remand in another case. Earlier, on October 27, a three-member judicial panel led by the chairman of the tribunal, Justice Md. Golam Mortuza, ordered them to appear before the tribunal. The court issued this order in the wake of two separate applications by the state.
On the same day, in another separate application, six people, including former army officer Ziaul Ahsan, were ordered to appear before the tribunal after being arrested in a case of crimes against humanity. Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam supported the application. Prosecutors Gazi Monwar Hussain Tamim and BM Sultan Mahmud and other prosecutors were present.
More than fifty complaints have been submitted to the investigation agency and prosecution office of the International Crimes Tribunal so far on charges of genocide and crimes against humanity committed across the country from July 5 to August 5. The judicial proceedings of the International Crimes Tribunal began on October 17 with the issuance of arrest warrants against 46 people, including Sheikh Hasina, on charges of crimes against humanity.
