The government has formed the media reform commission. Journalist Kamal Ahmed has been appointed as the head of this commission. This information was given by the office of the chief advisor on Monday (November 18).
The other members of the commission are: Professor Gitiara Nasreen of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism of Dhaka University, Shamsul Haque Zahid, editor of The Financial Express and representative of the Editors’ Council, Association of Television Owners (ATCO) representative, Newspaper Owners Association of Bangladesh (NOAB) secretary Akhtar Hossain Khan, former general secretary of the National Press Club Syed Abdal Ahmed, CEO of Jamuna Television and trustee of the Broadcast Journalist Center Fahim Ahmed, convener of the Media Support Network journalist Jimmy Amir, Bogra district correspondent of the Daily Star Mostafa Sabuj, Deputy Editor of Business Standard Titu Dutta Gupta and student representative Abdullah Al Mamun.
It has been informed that the Commission will start its activities immediately and, after considering the opinions of all concerned, will submit the prepared report to the Chief Advisor of the Interim Government within the next 90 days. The office of the Commission will be determined by the Government; the Head and members of the Commission will receive the official rank, salary/honor and facilities determined by the Government; provided that if the Head of the Commission or any member wants to perform his duties as an unpaid employee or does not want to accept the facilities, the Chief Advisor of the Interim Government can approve it.
All the concerned ministries/divisions/offices/agencies of the Republic will provide all kinds of cooperation including the supply of necessary information and data as per the needs of the Commission. The Commission may include suitable persons as members of the Commission if necessary. Along with this, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting will provide secretarial support to this Commission.
