Decision to form 8-member ‘Local Government Reform Commission’

After the ten reform commissions, the government has decided to form a commission for local government reform. It has been decided to form an eight-member ‘Local Government Reform Commission’ headed by Professor Tofail Ahmed, former chairman of the Department of Public Administration of Chittagong University and local government expert.

This information was given by the press wing of the Chief Advisor on Monday. The Cabinet Division has sent a summary to the Chief Advisor regarding the formation of this commission. It says that a notification may be issued by forming this commission as per the instructions of the Chief Advisor.

The members of this commission are Professor Ferdous Arfina Osman, former chairman of the Department of Public Administration of Dhaka University, former secretary AMM Nasir Uddin, Supreme Court lawyer Abdur Rahman, director of the Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies Mahfuz Kabir, executive director of the Women’s Initiative Center Masuda Khatun, professor of the Department of Government and Politics of Jahangirnagar University Md. Tariqul Islam and student representatives.

Like other commissions, this commission will also have to submit its report within 90 days.
Earlier, six commissions were first formed to reform the electoral system, police, judiciary, public administration, constitution and anti-corruption. Later, the government decided to form the Health, Media, Labor Rights and Women’s Reform Commissions.
