Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr. Ahsan H. Mansur said, closing down any institution including S Alam is not the goal of Bangladesh Bank. However, individuals will be tried. Cases will be filed against those who committed irregularities. The court will ensure their punishment.
He said these things at a press conference organized at Bangladesh Bank today, Monday.
The governor said, the central bank is responsible for the security of everyone’s deposits. Our main goal is to return everyone’s deposits. Various measures are being taken for this. Banks will be supported. But that is not a child. They asked for lollipop, and we gave it to them. It will not be like this. The money will be given after all the calculations are done.
Obaid Ullah Al Masud, Chairman of Islami Bank Bangladesh, was present at the press conference organized at the meeting room of Bangladesh Bank. He said, S Alam Group has taken half of the loan from Islami Bank. Apart from this, the group has paid a liability of Tk 20,000 crore against the LC. Half of this liability will be adjusted from its shares in the name of the company. Currently, it has shares of Tk 16,000 crore. The current share price of which is about Tk 10,000 crore. In addition, new shares of the remaining Tk 10,000 crore will be issued. Various organizations including Al-Razi, IFC will be invited to invest here.
