A delegation from the Biden administration has arrived in Dhaka on a four-day official visit to support sustainable economic growth, stability, and meaningful and quality jobs in Bangladesh.
They arrived in Dhaka on Friday (November 22) morning and met with the Solidarity Center, a labor organization, to discuss the working conditions and details of workers. They will meet with the International Labor Organization (ILO) in the afternoon. They are also scheduled to meet with all government stakeholders.
The delegation is led by Kelly M. Fay Rodriguez, Special Representative for International Labor Affairs, and Thea Lee, Deputy Under Secretary of Labor for the Department of Labor.
During the visit, the delegation will meet with officials from the interim government, garment industry owners, and labor union stakeholders. They will discuss with representatives of U.S. companies investing in the ready-made garment sector and global labor experts how to best support Bangladesh’s economy, democracy, and workers.
The visit will focus on economic development, internationally recognized labor standards; At the same time, the United States’ commitment to sustainable growth and the advancement of development and prosperity has been emphasized.
