Says that BNP has no differences with the current interim government on the current reform process, BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman said that reforms will not be of any use if the people’s daily needs cannot be met.
He made these remarks as the chief guest at the annual general meeting of the Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) at the National Press Club premises on Monday (November 25).
Tarique Rahman said that BNP believes that along with reforms, free and fair elections should be arranged within a reasonable time. No government can remain in power without the people’s votes.
The BNP Acting Chairman said that at least 6 journalists were martyred in the July-August mass uprising against dictatorship. At least more than 2,000 students were killed on the orders of the fugitive dictator. About 400 leaders and activists of our organization were killed in this fight.
He said that Awami League and democracy are enemies of each other. At this moment, various conspiracies have started to hinder our ongoing democracy. The expelled evil forces will not be able to return to Bangladesh politics.
In the meeting chaired by DUJ President Mohammad Shahidul Islam and moderated by Organizing Secretary Saeed Khan, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Professor Mia Golam Parwar, BNP Standing Committee Member Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain, Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Joint Secretary General Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie, Dhaka Metropolitan South Jamaat Ameer Md. Nurul Islam Bulbul, former BFUJ president M Abdullah, current secretary general Quader Gani Chowdhury, former secretary general MA Aziz, former president of the National Press Club Kamal Uddin Sabuj, former president of DUJ poet Abdul Hai Sikder, Elahi Newaz Khan Saju, former general secretary Baker Hossain, Jahangir Alam Prodhan, current general secretary Khurshid Alam, vice president Rashedul Haque spoke. Besides, leaders of various political parties and journalists were present at the meeting.
