Two people, including a woman, were killed and 10 injured in clashes between two Awami League factions in Narsingdi. At least 10 people were injured.
The incident took place on Saturday (December 7) morning in the Nazarpur area of Chanderkandi Union of the upazila. The army is on its way to the scene to control the situation after receiving information about the clash.
The deceased are Chanderkandi UP member Manik Mia (55) and former female UP member Kalpana Begum (32). Both of them are members of the Rubel Group.
The injured are Amir Hossain (21) and Rabbi Mia (24) along with 10 others. The names and addresses of the other injured are not yet known.
Police and locals said that for a long time, there was a dispute between the supporters of Upazila Jubo League leader Abid Hasan Rubel and the supporters of Raipura Municipality Awami League Vice-President Harun Aur Rashid due to dominance and group conflict. Due to this, Rubel’s uncle Manik Mia took refuge in the house of Bashir Uddin, a member of ward no. 9 of the neighboring Chanderkandi Union. At that time, it is known that Harun Aur Rashid’s supporters hacked him to death in Bashir Uddin’s yard. The deceased Manik Mia is the current UP member of ward no. 8 of Chanderkandi Union and Kalpana Begum is a former female UP member of the same union.
Raipura Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Abdul Jabbar said that the clash took place since dawn due to group conflict between the two groups. Two people, including a woman, were killed and several others were injured. I will give details of the incident later.
