Today is December 16. The 54th Great Victory Day. An unforgettable day of the thousand years of bravery and valor of the Bengali nation. The day to emerge as a nation of heroes. The day to announce the name of the independent land on the world map as Bangladesh.
On this day in 1971, after the 9-month bloody liberation war, the Bengali nation achieved the final victory of the freedom struggle. On this day, the country will be filled with joy and the entire nation will be filled with joy. The day will be celebrated with various arrangements from the capital Dhaka to remote villages.
This is the first Victory Day after the Awami League government fell in the student-public uprising on August 5 and the interim government took power on August 8. On this day, President Md. Shahabuddin and Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus gave separate messages. In addition to conveying greetings and congratulations to the countrymen on the occasion of Victory Day, they also remembered with deep respect the sacrifices of countless brave freedom fighters and martyrs, whose sacrifice made it possible to achieve the final victory.
A comprehensive program has been taken at the national level to celebrate the great Victory Day with due dignity. The day will begin with 31 gun salutes in Dhaka this morning. As soon as the sun rises, President Md. Shahabuddin and Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus Savar will place wreaths at the National Memorial.
After this, the Bir Shrestha family and brave freedom fighters, led by Advisor to the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs Faruk-e-Azam, will place wreaths. People from all walks of life, including foreign diplomats and members of various political and social organizations, will pay tribute to the brave freedom fighters who died in the great liberation war by placing wreaths. The families of the brave soldiers will be felicitated at Bangabhaban in the afternoon.
Today is a public holiday. The national flag will be hoisted on all government, semi-government, autonomous and private buildings and important buildings and establishments will be decorated with lights. The main roads and road islands of Dhaka and various cities of the country will be decorated with the national flag.
Highlighting the significance of the day, various newspapers, Bangladesh Television, Bangladesh Betar and other private television channels will organize various events based on the Liberation War. The Postal Department has issued commemorative postage stamps on this occasion. Special prayers and worship will be organized in religious institutions seeking peace and progress of the country. Special food will be served in orphanages, old age homes, hospitals, prisons, government children’s homes and similar institutions. All children’s parks and museums in the country will be kept open to the public without tickets and films based on the Liberation War will be screened free of charge in cinema halls.
On this occasion, various socio-cultural organizations including Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Bangla Academy, National Museum, Liberation War Museum, Bangladesh Shishu Academy will organize Liberation War-based discussions, cultural programs, children’s painting, writing and sports competitions, and Liberation War-based documentary screenings.
In addition, day-long grand Victory Fairs (arts, crafts and locally produced industrial products) and Liberation War-based painting competitions and cultural programs for children have been organized in all districts and upazilas of the country. Receptions will be given to the brave freedom fighters and martyred family members in the metropolis, districts and upazilas. Programs will also be taken up in Bangladesh embassies abroad to highlight the significance of the day.
Various political, social and cultural organizations have taken up programs on the occasion of the great Victory Day. The BNP’s program includes hoisting the national and party flags at all party offices this morning, paying homage at the National Memorial in Savar at 7:30 am and from there, laying wreaths at the grave of BNP founder and former President Ziaur Rahman in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital, and a ‘public concert’ at Manik Mia Avenue at 2 pm under the initiative of ‘Bangladesh First’. On this occasion, posters will be released and the party’s central office in Nayapaltan and the BNP Chairperson’s office in Gulshan will be illuminated. In addition, the party held a discussion meeting at the Engineers Institution in the capital yesterday, Sunday.
The Jamaat-e-Islami’s program includes a victory rally at 10 am in front of Zamzam Tower in Uttara in the capital under the initiative of the party’s Dhaka Metropolitan North and from Bijoynagar under the initiative of the Metropolitan South.
Apart from this, various parties and organizations including Ganatraman Mancha, Bam Ganatantrik Jote, Bikalpadhara Bangladesh, LDP, CPB, BSD, Gono Forum, Bangladesh JSD, JSD, Biplobi Workers Party, Gana Sanghati Andolan, BSD (Marxist), Zaker Party and their allied-fraternal organizations and Muktijoddha Sangsad, Muktijoddha Kalyan Trust, Dhaka North and South City Corporation, National Press Club, Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ), Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ), Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU), National University, Dhaka University, Jagannath University, Mahila Parishad, Central Kachikanchar Mela have taken up programs.
Instructions for vehicle movement-
On the occasion of the Great Victory Day, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has instructed to use alternative roads for vehicle movement in Bangabhaban and its surrounding areas today, Monday. A notification yesterday said that on the occasion of Victory Day, the Chief Advisor, Chief Justice, advisors in charge of various ministries, foreign diplomats and high-ranking government officials, leaders of various organizations, titled freedom fighters and other eminent persons will pay a courtesy call on the President at Bangabhaban. To ensure smooth movement of vehicles of the guests arriving at the event, those traveling in the area around Bangabhaban have been requested to follow alternative routes from 12 noon until the end of the Bangabhaban program.
It said that all types of vehicles will be closed from Gulistan Ahad Box to Ittefaq Intersection, all types of vehicles will be closed from Aliko Gap to Dilkusha Commercial Area and Rajuk Crossing, no vehicles will be allowed to ply from the northern end of Park Road towards Ittefaq Intersection. All buses from Shapla Chattar and Dainik Bangla to Rajuk-Gulistan will travel via Dainik Bangla, UBL Crossing, Press Club or any other convenient alternative route, and no commercial vehicles will travel from Dainik Bangla to Rajuk.
