Dhaka //
Advocate Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, advisor to the interim government’s chairperson, said, “You have now arranged the chess pieces like chessmen to withdraw the countless false cases and political vendetta cases against us. If this happens, that will happen, and if that happens, this will happen. This is not justice. Justice is justice. We want justice from this government, we want fairness.”
He made these remarks as the chief guest at a protest rally organized by the Bangladesh Democratic Council in front of the National Press Club in the capital on Saturday demanding the unconditional release of all political prisoners, including former ministers Abdus Salam Pintu, Lutfuzzaman Babar and former student leader Zakir Khan.
Moazzem Hossain Alal said, why are the countless cases in the names of Begum Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman and countless activists still not being withdrawn? No evidence has been found in the cases in which we have been sentenced. The biggest evidence of which is the national leader Begum Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman themselves. Begum Khaleda Zia transferred 20 million taka from one account to another, the judge who sentenced Begum Zia to 12 years for this crime was promoted to a judge within a week.
Addressing the Awami League, he said, Justices Khairul Haque and Obaidul Hasan have used the entire judiciary for their own interests and have deprived people of their fair rights and the right to vote. The heads of this government (interim government) are also admitting this.
Addressing Sheikh Hasina, Moazzem Hossain Alal said, “You will not find a place anywhere in the world. No political party has been in power for 15 years and all its associates have fled the country due to a mass uprising. Begum Khaleda Zia was thrown out of her home, the people of Bangladesh have thrown you out of the country.”
This advisor to the BNP Chairperson said, “An advisor died yesterday. He was a wise man in terms of law. While he was alive, he spoke a lot about the interpretation of the law. But, in reality, we have not seen its application yet. Asif Nazrul is there as a legal advisor. He is a law teacher. He is in a respected place like Dhaka University. From his side, the people of Bangladesh expect an example of justice. To show an example of justice, just as the cases of national leaders Begum Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman are being dismissed under the AKA law, the cases of Abdus Salam Pintu, Lutfar Zaman Babar and Zakir Khan should be dismissed at the same time.” We are specifically demanding this from you (Asif Nazrul). No matter how big you Asif Nazrul thinks you are, our expectations from you are much higher.
Moazzem Hossain Alal said, if we cry out to those who fled the country in Bangladesh due to the anger of the people, give us back our 16 years, it will not be of any use. Because they have nothing to give now. They (AL) rather want to take from the people of Bangladesh. But, those who have something to give, who are running the country today with the support of all classes of people, have stumbled on one place and hit the biggest stumbling block. That is the inability to reduce the price of goods. The common people are now asking, whether the family comes first or the reforms. Because people are not running their families now. The price of everything is increasing by leaps and bounds. People’s lives are becoming miserable. Where running a family is the responsibility, the people have no headache about reforms.
Bangladesh Democratic Council Convener Mohammad Kamal Ahmed presided over the event, which was also attended by Bangladesh Democratic Party Organizing Secretary Mir Amir Hossain Amu, Bangladesh Chalak Dal President Jasim Uddin Kabir, Narayanganj Sadar Thana BNP Joint Convener Parvez Mallick, LK Rony, Delwar Hossain Khokon and other leaders at various levels.
