A national mourning will be observed tomorrow Monday for the death of interim government advisor AF Hasan Arif.
A notification in this regard was issued by the Cabinet Division on Sunday afternoon.
The notification signed by Cabinet Secretary Dr. Sheikh Abdur Rashid said that a national mourning will be observed tomorrow Monday (December 23) for the death of the interim government’s Land Ministry and Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry Advisor AF Hasan Arif. For this, the national flag will be flown at half-mast in all government, semi-government and autonomous institutions and educational institutions in Bangladesh, as well as in all government and private buildings and Bangladesh missions abroad on December 23.
The notification also said that special prayers will be held in all mosques in Bangladesh on the same day for the forgiveness of the deceased’s soul. In addition, special prayers will be organized in other religious institutions for the peace of his soul.
Hasan Arif, an advisor to the interim government, died of cardiac arrest at the capital’s LabAid Hospital at 3:30 pm on Friday (December 20). He was 85 years old at the time of his death.
Hasan Arif was the advisor to the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, the Ministry of Land and Religious Affairs of the caretaker government led by Fakhruddin Ahmed from January 2008 to January 2009.
He was appointed as an advisor to the interim government of Bangladesh on August 8, 2024 and took charge as an advisor to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives on August 9. Later, he took charge as an advisor to the Ministry of Land on August 27.
Hasan Arif was born on July 10, 1941 in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. He graduated from St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata and later completed his LLB under the University of Calcutta.
He started working as a lawyer in the Calcutta High Court in 1967. After that, he came to Dhaka and started working in the Bangladesh High Court. Hasan Arif served as Attorney General from 2001 to April 28, 2005.
